Code of Ethics
Because Shintoism can also practiced with Buddhism and Confucianism, much of Confucian values have influenced Japanese ethical code. Shintoism does not have a set of commandments or laws, therefore the way that the kami acts influences peoples beliefs. They will try to live similarly with the way of the kami. In Shinto texts the kami are not always represented in a perfect manner, kami can make mistakes, therefore this differentiate this religion from faiths that represent God as perfect. This can also be a reason why Shinto ethics have no absolute moral rules. Overall Shinto ethics are to support harmony and purity. In deciding whether an action is bad is dependent on circumstance, intention, moment, and location.
